DealScan — Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 18, 2026

DealScan is a browser extension that evaluates Facebook Marketplace listings using the Anthropic (Claude) API. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.

The short version

DealScan has no servers of its own. It does not collect, store, or transmit your data to the developer. Everything it stores stays in your browser, and the only external service it contacts is the Anthropic API, using an API key you provide.

What the extension handles

Your Anthropic API key. You enter your own Anthropic API key in the extension's options. It is stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local) and is sent only to the Anthropic API (api.anthropic.com) to authenticate your evaluation requests. It is never sent to the developer or any other party.

Listing data. When you evaluate a listing, the extension reads that listing's text (title, price, condition, description) and a few of its photos from the Facebook Marketplace page you are viewing, and sends them to the Anthropic API to generate the evaluation. This data is sent only to Anthropic, only to produce your result.

Your history and watchlist. Evaluations you choose to save, and listings you add to your watchlist, are stored locally in your browser. They are not transmitted anywhere. You can export or clear them at any time from within the extension.

Third-party processing

Listing data and your API key are processed by Anthropic, PBC to provide the evaluation. Anthropic's handling of that data is governed by its own policies, available at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

What we do NOT do

Permissions

The extension requests only what it needs to function: access to Facebook Marketplace pages (to read the listing and show the Evaluate button), access to Facebook's image servers (to read listing photos), access to the Anthropic API (to send your evaluation request), local storage (for your settings, history, and watchlist), and the side panel (its interface).

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
